Your Lake District Holiday at the Kirkstile Inn

There are numerous activities both for the young and the more mature visitor to the Lake District National Park. The most popular reason for visiting the Loweswater area is its scenery. The stunning beauty of the Lake District ridges, fells and lakes is unique and the very fact that it has never been commercialized lies at the heart of its appeal. It is a magical place where you can unwind and relax.

This is an unrivalled walking area. See our guide to walking in the area.

There are also many other activities such as swimming, cycling, and golf ( including the famous Silloth championship course) to name but a few. See also our guide for children.

Shopping

From the bustle of Keswick with its many and varied shops and galleries to historic Cockermouth, the  serious shopper will not be disappointed. Mitchells Auction House is rapidly gaining international recognition for its bi-monthly Fine Art Auctions having recently attracted visitors from London and telephone bidding from the USA.

On a lighter note Cockermouth is also home to Jennings Brewery who offer tours and an interesting gift shop.

History

Visit William Wordsworth's birthplace in Cockermouth or Mirehouse on the shores of Bassenthwaite.

The local museums include the Cumberland Toy and Hobby,  the Motor Museum and the Pencil Museum.
